Environment

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), more than 1.2 billion people worldwide are addicted to tobacco consumption. This is also reflected in the sales figures, as around 5.5 trillion cigarettes change hands every year. The ecological impact of smoking is considerable.
A single cigarette butt may seem marginal, but with an average weight of 0.2 grams per piece, this waste adds up to 1,100,000 tons annually. A share that represents about 0.3% of the plastic produced globally, which amounts to approximately 359 million tons.
The challenge of disposing of cigarette butts has enormous environmental significance, as not only their slow decomposition but also the release of toxic chemicals, especially into waterways, poses a significant threat. Studies show that cigarette filters take years or even decades to decompose, releasing microplastic particles that pollute the environment.
The SmokeClean team sees its mission as minimizing the environmental damage caused by cigarette consumption and thus contributing to a greener world.
